The Threat of Methamphetamine and Crystal Meth in Arkansas
June 3, 2008
Both methamphetamine and crystal meth have become quite strong in the scene of substance abuse in Arkansas since the last ten years. These substances were almost absent here till about ten years ago, but now they are giving even substances like heroin and cocaine a run for their money. And, despite that, the methamphetamine addiction in Arkansas is only rising.
The reason for this prevalence of meth addiction in Arkansas is that the substance is sourced into the state in two major ways. The first way is through the illegal trafficking that brings the substance into the state through outside states and nations. Almost all neighboring states have channels that allow methamphetamine to be entered into Arkansas. These are operated through the roadways. Even though a lot of such methamphetamine is nabbed through the highway interdiction points and other ways, a lot of it still gets away and this is what is causing the spurt of methamphetamine presence within the state.
The second source is more lethal actually. These are the small mom-and-pop meth labs that have sprung up throughout the state. These labs are clandestinely operated within homes and the products are locally distributed. It is these labs that are responsible for making the purer version of methamphetamine known as crystal meth.
The pity is that both meth and crystal meth are predominantly distributed within the youth nightclubs and rave parties. This is what makes it a youth-oriented drug. At the same time, this is more lethal because methamphetamine and crystal meth can produce very strong highs and that makes their addiction very strong.
