South Carolina, although there is a high drug density in that state, has some of the best drug rehab and detox centers available. They are able to treat many forms of addictions, and can do so via inpatient, outpatient or a mixture of both types of treatment. Drug and alcohol abuse are extremely detrimental to lifestyle. Home with a Heart is a Christian rehabilitation home for men suffering from drug or alcohol abuse. Their services are free of charge, provided the patient has already gone through the assessment process. The eight-week-long program is designed with the teachings of the Bible in mind, along with Alcoholics Anonymous’ 12 Step Program. The program is supported via donations from local churches and charity organizations.
More than 30 ministers from the surrounding area take time to come to work with Home with a Heart. They help the men with drug abuse problems to fill what is likely a spiritual void by educating them in Christian principles. More than 1700 men have come through the home since 1993, and 1200 of them have successfully conquered their addictions through prayer and group therapy and fellowship.
Twice a week, there is a group session with the Bible to help the men better understand themselves and others. Part of why drug abuse occurs is loneliness or a lack of empathy. Dr. Rudy Gray, the pastor of Utica Baptist Church, addresses another issue: marriage. Some drug abuse happens because of a need to escape or withdraw from an unhappy marriage or relationship. The pastor of Red Hill Baptist in Pickens SC conducts a weekly group on conquering chemical dependency, and once a week there is a Bible study, led by Jim King and Larry Karnes from Anderson, South Carolina.
Home with a Heart is situated on 29 acres of land. The Home is located on 29 acres of land with a 2,000 sq ft home for the director and his family, plus two 3,700 sq. ft. dormitories that hold 20 men. We also have a beautiful 2,800 sq. ft. chapel with a fully equipped commercial kitchen and a sanctuary to have services and classes.
