This is what is known typically as a drug court. In recent years, the drug courts have helped immensely in reducing the prevalence of drug addiction in New Jersey. Until lately, people who were involved in drug related crimes were sent to jail like common criminals. They would serve their prison sentences and when they would be released, they would fall back into their addictions and then revert to a life of crime. The detox is the first part of the whole program, but it is continued with a very extensive and elaborate aftercare therapy where training is provided to these people on various aspects of the addiction. They are serviced in a group and there’s a motivational approach to this program.
Drug courts have proved immensely successful in the state. Most people who have gone through these programs haven’t had relapses and haven’t resorted to criminal activities again.
