Those who suffer from drug addiction and alcoholism and their families and friends do have help available. Admitting to ones’ self and/or to others that you, or someone close to you, have a problem with either drugs or alcohol is the first step to addiction recovery. It is a fact that alcohol and drug abuse creates havoc in any kind of relationship, be it personal or professional and in truth destroys lives, relationships, careers and the general quality of life. Imprisonment or death is the inevitable end of chronic drug or alcohol addiction. Intervention, alcohol treatment programs, drug rehabilitation centers and various types of rehab facilities are all available to provide the necessary help.
Alcohol or drug intervention is also a step in the right direction to addiction recovery, and is often pursued by a family member or friend of an individual with a drug or alcohol related problem. An abuser of drugs or alcohol is often too far along in their dependency to realize that they have a problem in the first place, let alone to ask for help. Without intervention and/or placement in an alcohol treatment center or drug rehab facility, the addict will continue to become even more entrenched in their addiction and slip further away from those that care about them.
An estimated 429,000 individuals in the State of Georgia were dependant on, or were abusers of alcohol in 2005. Further statistics show that that were an estimated 195,000 with an illicit drug abuse, dependence or addiction problem. For that same year, the statistics show that an estimated 409,000 did not receive needed alcohol rehab treatment and that 175,000 people in need of drug addiction treatment did not receive required care. These figures indicate that more needs to be done in the areas of alcohol and drug rehabilitation.
Communities in Georgia are directly affected by the lack of treatment facilities for alcoholism and drug abuse. As the numbers of people using drugs and abusing alcohol grow, so do the numbers of acts of violence and crime. The success rate for addiction recovery in the existing treatment centers is abysmally low, in spite of the hard work, concern and commitment of dedicated professionals. The addiction recovery process takes time and dedication by both the professionals involved and the family and friends of the individual involved. The answer to a higher rate of success is to provide more treatment programs and alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers
There are treatment centers available in Georgia for both drug rehab and alcoholism. From long term treatment (consisting of 60 day plus programs), to in-patient programs (30 days) and detoxification, help is available. As important as the treatment is, the aftercare and follow-up are equally as imperative. Outpatient counseling, involvement in organizations like Alcoholics Anonymous and the continued support of family and friends will all contribute to a successful recovery.
It only takes one caring individual to start the process of recovery for alcoholism or drug addiction. This can be the concerned friend, a family member or the addict finally realizing he or she may have a problem. Ask for help and know that you are not alone.
