Don’t Give Up When Addiction Treatment Doesn’t Work
April 10, 2008

People who are not successful in attempts at addiction recovery often become very frustrated with themselves and their disease. They begin to believe that there is no hope for them, and they will just have to live with drug addiction or alcoholism for the rest of their life.
There is no reason to let substance abuse take so much away from you. It is difficult to keep getting your hopes in a rehabilitation program and then suffer the disappointment when you relapse and feel that the situation is out of your control. However, there is always hope for addiction recovery to work. Never give up trying to create a new beginning in your life. When a treatment program doesn’t work, there are many other methods and types of help available out there that may be more beneficial to your individual situation and unique needs. Rehab programs vary a lot in the modes of treatment that they provide to their patients and the environment that they offer. There are also many new medications entering the market to help overcome drug and alcohol abuse. You should figure out what exactly didn’t work in past attempts, and try to find a new situation that builds on the things that did give you the most benefit. Don’t keep trying to do the same thing repeatedly. If it doesn’t work after the first, second, or third time, you need to try a new direction.
Continuing to try again and again after a failure requires courage and determination. It’s always hard to know that friends and family members are watching your struggle and becoming discouraged, as well. You don’t need to give up on changing your future and just accept defeat to the disease of alcoholism or drug addiction. There are many avenues of rehabilitation programs for you to try.
