Most people would be surprised to learn that the incidence of alcohol abuse is actually higher among seniors than it is among the rest of the population. Estimates are that approximately 10 percent of people living in the United States have an alcohol abuse problem. However, up to 17% of those over the age of 65 abuse alcohol. Addiction Treatment Can Prevent Repeat Offenders

When someone with a drug or alcohol addiction creates a crime, they are typically sent to jail for a period of time without any type of rehabilitation. This may keep them off of the streets for a little while, but it does nothing to really solve the problem. The individual gets released and goes right back to doing the same things. Alcoholics Anonymous is probably the most widely recognized name in addiction treatment, but there are many other groups and treatment facilities that use this philosophy, as well.
